Mass euphoria from the new hit song by Nedelchevi Brothers in Bulgaria (“Ot Ikebana Darvesata Gi Boli”)

On 1st January 2010 in Bulgaria literally started a mass euphoria from the hit song “Ot Ikebana Darvesata Gi Boli” by Deyan and Boiko Nedelchevi, which was recorded back in 2001 and included in their album “Kolko si hubava, Gospodi”(“God, you’re beautiful”) (2002). The song gains popularity 8 years after the release of the album, mainly through video sharing sites such as youtube.com and vbox7.com. The person, who found the video, uploaded in 2006, unfortunately remains anonymous.

Everything started from the word “ikebana”, which was probably interpreted in an incorrect fashion by the kids, who understand it with a different, dirtier connotation. The song is also criticized for being “the worst kitsch in Bulgarian pop music”, but I doubt that, because I’ve heard enough low-quality lyrics.

The music to the song is by the singer Deyan Nedelchev and the lyrics belong to his good friend from Panagyurishte – Ivan Stanchev, whom Deyan met in 1988. Back then Ivan gave Deyan his poetry book “Dyavolden” and Deyan liked the Ikebana-poem so much that he promised to compose the music for those lyrics.

Actually, the lyrics have a deep philosophical message and are not kitsch at all, but only if one reads and thinks with an open mind. Fortunately, there’s no such thing as bad advertising, just advertising.

In about two weeks Nedelchevi Brothers became national stars, even though Deyan was in this business for over 25 years. During that time Deyan was strolling the streets of Prague not knowing that his old song will drive everyone crazy in his country. From the very beginning of the new year you can hear the song everywhere – offices, radios, discos.

In the video Deyan is lively and quite plastic and that’s the reason why he’s often asked if he was using drugs at that time. Deyan is a happy person and shows this in the video, he’s strongly against the use and distribution of drugs.

DEYAN ANGELOFF STARTED WORKING WITH TWO COLLEAGUES
Deyan Angeloff began working with the pianist Katya Mihaylova on the Canary Islands, Spain, where she worked in an Italian restaurant. They prepared diverse jazz standers, bosa novas from Brazil, Italian, French and Spanish songs, R'n'B, soul and pop music. The clients of the restaurant came from all over the world and Deyan and Katya had a great success as a duet there. At the same time Deyan signed another contract with Agenzia Lanzarte, but within the Rumbo subdivision. Deyan continues to work with his colleague Bozhidar as a duo, singing the biggest disco hits of the 70’s and the 80’s, with great success among Western tourists in the large local hotels . On 1.1.2010 Deyan went to Madrid and then he visited Prague, Czech Republic, for 6 days, where he stayed at an old friend’s house. He spent some wonderful time there and took lots of photos. This was his first visit there.
